Paul Speare - Baritone Sax, Tenor Sax
|
Paul Speare plays saxophones and flutes. He was originally a classical flautist, attending the London College of Music and studying with Adrian Brett, Ann Cherry and Rainer Schuelein. However, his love of prog rock, funk, jazz-fusion and ethnic music quickly led him to the saxophone.
Most recently he has been working as a guest musician with the UK soul band Stone Foundation and played on their 2017 album "Street Rituals", produced by - and featuring - Paul Weller. Over the years he has recorded and toured with artists such as Elvis Costello, Difford and Tilbrook (Squeeze), Madness, Paul Young, and The Special AKA on their influential protest song "Nelson Mandela". His first commercial exposure was as a member of the infamous Birmingham band Dexys Midnight Runners, playing on their most successful album "Too-Rye-Ay" and its worldwide hit single "Come On Eileen". It was during a recording session with the celebrated producer Tony Visconti that Paul was asked to record an overdub on a hired baritone sax. From that moment he discovered his love of the instrument and has specialised in it ever since. In addition to playing, Paul is an experienced music producer and engineer. He owned a successful recording studio in the midlands for many years and continues to record and produce music for selected artists at his home studio in Herne Bay. http://www.paulspeare.com/ |
